  • My Photography Checklist 2014

I become more interested in photography when I notice that my photography skills are improving. I want to achieved goals and set direction to make track records and learn something along the way.

You know that experience will teach you more and help you master the skills you need in photography. Now I wanted to start my adventure to gain more experience in photography. I’ll be more friendly and happy to meet new friends and make our time valued to learn.

I love to learn photography because I love to bring back the moments and feelings when you look back on the photo. Photograph is one of the best tools to remember and it is not always the image that is preserved it includes the feelings.

    Outdoor Photography

The three venues that I can recommend within Quezon City to perform outdoor photography. My first outdoors photo shoot was held at Wild Life where you can get scene form the lake, bridge, trees, walls, house, grass, woods, and stairs. The Quezon City Memorial Circle is good as it is a well know landmark. The Eco Park at Lamesa Dam is very to Wild Life.

Here are my checklists for outdoor photo shoot

    • The girl with a guitar – I always love music.
    • The girl with umbrella – playing under the sun or getting wet under the rain
    • The girl in the mirror – strong emotional feelings
    • Happy with the balloons – I always think happy with the balloons
    • Playing in the woods – do you want to play hide and seek in the woods

    Indoor Photography

Privately public – we shoot you on private but you wanted to show in public.
I don’t have this option in mind just want to make sure that it is included in my checklist.

    Food Photography

Food can always be delicious in the photo and my smart phone can handle this most of the time.

    Stolen Shots

The sniper style! Making a good shoots behind the scene and perfect timing.

    Landscape Photography

I hope to list down a good landmark and it is best for me traveling with friends. Enjoying your photography while spending good time with your friends.

    Tools and Gears for Photographer

I also want to invest in my tools and I hope to use them very well.
I need lighting effects life flash, steady lights, umbrella, and reflector. And of course I want new lens, they are expensive but let them be included in my checklist.
I need file storage and I a have SD card for now but I want a big file storage that I can access online or in the cloud.

    Friends and Mentors

I need friends, the one that I can share my experience and the one that I can learn too. I always starts this way. Making friends can always bring fun that makes me feel the difference.

  • Summer Class 2014 at NEU

This was my first summer class in my life time. Just like before the last school year in college, I always miss the first day of the class and get lost going to the classroom. I missed the first day because I enrolled late. I am a bit lost as the surrounding changed. I stop going to school last June 2001 and return as old returning students.

    Summer Class Returning Students

I need my clearance to be signed and approved from different office to grant my summer class. It’s easy but time consuming because you need to queue in line day by day. To cut the story, I shift my course from BS Electronics and Communication Engineering to Computer Science and enrolled late.

    Summer Class New Teachers

I have to practice my GLLA, “good learning and listening attitude.” Getting new lessons from my teachers is fun. Sometimes I don’t understand them all, the only thing that make me able to catch up is by having the same reference.

    My Economic Teachers is cool.

I like the way she deliver her lessons and share her experience when it is related to the topic. She likes to ask opinions and what we can say about. Learning from sharing is the thing that I can easily digest and understand. I can feel her compassion to help student to pass on here class with kind ways to remind students having trouble on getting good grades.

My Political Science Teacher is a Rock star.

I love rock music and I feel good about it. Good music can be easy to understand that is why I call him a rock star. He discusses lessons and repeat important words to remember. He gives example to make you understand more. Everything is easy to remember and well understood.

My Sociology Teacher in the news.

I watch TV nowadays accidentally and only if someone ask me. Its crazy to have teachers in the news sharing everything she watched from TV, radio and newspaper. This is how she relates the lessons to the class. I have a poor relationship on watching TV, at leas I have a common sense to understand.

    New Classmates and Friends

To my classmates who remember my name, it is my pleasure to know you more because it is a great sign of friendship. I love making friends with same vision and goals. I hope that I can inspire you too along the way we walk together by friendship. Spending my time with you at the campus is a good experience.

    Having Fun

The most important lesson is having fun and it’s a good source of learning. Being cheerful is having all of your senses in good mood and being happy is always easy to remember. Have fun going to school, give a good smile at the security guards, entering the room with good mood, eating together with classmates and saying goodbye for the day as if you were excited to see them the next day.

  • My first photo shoots with Image Boost Photoshoot Production

Kitty arranged this event and luckily I was able to attend and join on their photo shoots last April 8, 2014. Meeting them for the first time makes me feel a little shy as first timer. I hope to remember all the names of the model and photographer; it is nice and fun to meet them all.

     The Photographer

I have not learn how to take a good shoots from my Canon 1100D and I took this opportunity to gain experience of taking a good shoots. It’s nice to meet other photographer who’s giving me tips and advice. Thank you sir Tony, Naz, Mario, and Alex.

    The Venue

The Wild life in Quezon City is a good venue for outdoor photo shoots. You can set different background from lake, trees, grass, bridge, and sunsets.

    The Photo Shoots Model

I don’t know but it feels like you have to build trust first compare to food photography done on my phone. I am bit confuse on what to do on my shoots it is the first time I am doing this for models that I also meet for the fist time.

    The Photo

I see that most photo shoots I did was blurry. Probably 10 out of 100 photos are good. I want to share this because it’s the beginning of my career in photography. Please check some of my photo process image.

    The Appreciation

The best result is when you feel like being acknowledged and this is priceless moment. Thank you so much for making me feel good.

  • Surfing with Joel Faraon

It is my first-time step on the surfing board over the waves at Sabang, Baler, Quezon province.  I don’t want to put much time swimming because I use to live near the beach in Batangas. Surfing changes my mind when I try this for the first time. I like to learn more and more but we only had a limited time since were going back to Manila after lunch.

We are lucky to have a coach with championship experience.

I need to try surfing to say and proved that it is easy or hard for me.  My first attempt was a failure and it becomes my learning point to adjust what to do next. I did not know that our coach Mr. Joel Faraon is the champion of the 8th Aurora Surfing Challenge 2014  for Men’s Open Division. We are all first-timer and we learn so fast with his coaching. Many thanks brother for coaching me and the rest of my colleague.

The basic things I did when I start learning how to surf.

    • Safety first – at least you know how to swim.
    • Wait for the waves and get to the flows – patiently wait for the good wave that can push you to surf towards the shore.
    • Get your feet on the board and keep your balance – it’s easy to balance when you are in motion or the board starts moving with you.
    • Enjoy surfing and ride in the waves – once you get your balance steady, focus and feel how awesome it is.
    • Don’t forget to say thank you – If you cannot afford to pay at least you can give thanks. What I really wanted to say when saying thanks is giving recognition to what you accomplished and appreciation for the blessing you’ve received.

How much is the budget for learning how to surf in Sabang, Baler?

The instructor talent fee would range from PHP350-500 per hour plus surfing board. Our instructor is trying to waive his talent free for free. Thank you for the generosity but keep this for our token of appreciation.

Photo from Dlysen and Leah’s camera.

Thank you Marie Dizon for taking photos of us while we are busy learning how to surf.

  • Starmobile Octa Core Android Jelly Bean Smartphone

When Starmobile OCTA Octa Core was introduce to market, I feel that I am going to buy that phone. I bought it with the help of my sponsors. Thank you so much Advance Idea Enterprise.

I like to use quad core smart phone for the love of speed and multi-tasking. Starmobile introduce the first Octa Core Adroid Smartphone in the Philippines and its good to know that its benchmark performance in terms of speed is good. I use AnTuTu Benchmark X Mar,2014 to check and compare the specs from other brand. Starmobile Octa benchmark for CPU and RAM really beat the well know brand as of now and second for overall performance.

My Octa is like Digital SLR on my pocket. I appreciate the 18MP back camera and 8MP front camera. I love the auto focus wide-angle lens that I can use “barkada selfie.” It has BSI-CMOS high image quality and fast autofocus that you can enjoy.

OCTA wireless charging can protect your battery from over charging. It will automatically stop charging when the battery is full. The charging pad use NFC technology and it has a built in Bluetooth speaks for entertainment. Since the body of Octa is fixed and you have to bring it to service center just incase the batter spoils.

The protective cover case or other accessories is not yet available because the dimension and size is different. It’s nice to know that Starmobile OCTA has Scratch Resist Asahi Glass, One Glass Solution (OGS). It will keep your screen away from scratch.

The OCTA price P16,990.00 is good for having almost the same performance with high end smart phone.

I recommend that you have to check everything is working on your phone before your live that shop. I got my Starmobile OCTA on March 23, 2014 but I found out that my unit has a bug. The display black out when you call and you have to restart the phone again by pressing up volume and power button. The customer service gives new unit replacement with new IMEI. I still have the old IME number on my receipt.

PS: I love using my Starmobile Octa on selfie. its nice to capture the moment and opportunity.

  • It’s good to travel with friends and others even though you’re meeting them for the first time.

This is my first time visit to Palawan. I grabbed the opportunity to join with my friend’s journey to El Nido Palawan. It is hard for me to plan a travel trip on my own that is why I feel good when someone planned it for me. My budget and time availability is quite manageable so even if I am not so prepared, I joined.

    What Happen On Thursday?

I hang out with my friends Yanda, Leah and Janine from 1am to 3am at McDonalds somewhere it Fairview. My things are not yet packed up and ready when I got home. I slept for an hour and woke up 6:30am to insert few important things on my Swiss Polo Travel bag. I went to the internet shop to print my booking ticket and headed to Terminal 4.

I met April Gonzales at Domestic Terminal 4 as my travel buddy. I thought April is female but he’s not. We arrived at Puerto Princesa and stay at Big Brother Condotel. We took our Garlic Pepper Beef lunch at the nearby Jollibee together with Criselda Lapitan who arrived one day ahead. We are still waiting for Janice Cabuyao and spend the night together. Tomorrow we are heading to El Nido.

We had our dinner at TIKI Restobar and experienced Sizzling Crocodile for the first time in my life. Then after I bought some fruits “banana and grapes” to bring on our journey to El Nido.

I am worried about my work because I wasn’t able to get good internet connection. All of my tasked were done offline and few hours online.

    Our Big Brother Condotel Booking

    What Happen on Friday?

I woke up 5am and took a bath. I accidentally prepared cold coffee since I thought the water in the cup is hot. We check out from the Big Brothers Condotel and arrived at Bus Terminal Station going to El Nido. The bus fare is 280 pesos and departing on 7:00am, we arrived at El Nido market around 1:00pm. We manage to travel for 6 hours since the normal travel time is 6-9 hours as it said by the locals. From the market, we hired the tricycle driver to bring us to the town where we can eat our lunch because we are so starving. It’s so funny that the name of the eatery is FASFOOD without T. I only notice it on the second look. The tricycle driver manages to look for a room to stay in “BlueAsure Cottages” at very affordable rate 1200 pesos for two nights. It’s sounds like a fun room. It is only a fan room, “I mean electric fan ventilation only.” After we put all our bags and other stuff inside the room, we headed to queen beach for less than hour travel.

We went to twin beach at Nacpan facing the Island the of Congressman Manny Pacquiao bought. The travel time took us in less than an hour averaging 45 minutes from town. The sand is tiny and smooth while the water is very clear. The waves are good and I think it enough to surf if you have surfing board. The sunset is lovely over the island. We are glad to avail the tricycle fare at 800 PHP only going back and forth from “BlueAsure Cottages.”

I had a little chat with Judy Punay, the caretaker of the pension house and ask some information about the nice thing to do and visit at the cheapest rate.

We had our dinner back again at the eatery after and look for a boat ride for Island hopping. The usual rate is 1200 pesos per head for a group tour and the private tour with the minimum of four 4 persons is also 1200 per person. The package includes food and drinks. It’s the same information that I got from Judy and the only difference is he has an offer of 1000 pesos per person.

We hope that tomorrow will be a good day as the storm Basyang is heading toward this place. The weather forecast storm signal number 1 enough to postponed boat ride for Island hopping.

    What happen on Saturday?

I woke up asking for a hot water and four cups to have coffee on the hut. The electricity is scheduled to off at 6am – 2pm daily.

The storm had arrived with the strength signal number one. As predicted the boat ride for Island hopping is all canceled.

We stayed together in the Nipa-hut type pension house all and day. It seems we all don’t want to get out and no interest of eating. I mean that we already forgot to eat because sleeping all day and bed hopping is fun. We have our coffee, toasted bread and cup noodles around 7am and have our lunch around 4pm. The barbecue is so nice and good for only 10 pesos each and rice too. We got some dinner around 8pm and we ate Chicken Curry, Kalderetang Baka and some leftover barbecue. They continue to sleep while I do Advance Review System for Nursing.

I had a short chat again with the caretaker name “Judy Punay” and he gave me some tips that I wanted to share.

If you are in a short budget and you want to stay long, look for boarding house instead of pension house, or hotel accommodation. A boarding house will cost only for 1500 – 5000 pesos per month. It is usually far away from the town center but still you can enjoy the place.

You can save money on Island hopping if you know local that own a boat because you will only pay half the price. Knowing someone who has a boat will cut the booking fee from the agent. Basically, the price is 1200 – 1500 per head including meal and tour guide and an additional fee for Tourism Fee of more or less 500 pesos. If you know someone then you can place a budget of 600-700 pesos plus Tourism Fee. Tour for island hopping is at least four members in a group.

The local tour guide said that it becomes natural for them to see foreigner wearing two-piece but not on the local pinay girl. The attraction and supper seeing is hundred times head-turner than foreigner. And yes it is, this only means we are awesome people.

After a night walks with them Judy Punay with his friend Bokyo not his real name, I went back to our room and have a good night sleep.

We are going home on Sunday and Attend Worship Service

Time to go home and time to seek for worship service.  The worship service schedule at 6am and 10am and we are not able to attend the worship service at El Nido because we also need to consider the bus schedule. We attended the worship service at the local of Puerto Princesa Palawan on 4:00 pm.

We still have some few hours to buy souvenirs items and I found Arnis and Tsako for self-defense is good to buy.

Farewell to Puerto Princesa as the plane took us back to Manila. I asked for car service to pick us at the terminal for going home.

     What Awesome People Do?

It is good to travel with friends and others even though you’re meeting them for the first time.

    My Estimated Budget Summary

    Air Fare: 5000
    Tricycle: 20
    Hotels: 1200
    Tricycle: 30
    Bus: 280
    Tricycle: 15
    Hotel: (1200 x 2 nights) / 4
    Tricycle: 800 / 4
    Food: 500
    Souvenirs and gift items: 700

  • Day hike at Mt. Batulao and Bulalo Soup at Mohogany Tagaytay

Day hike at Mt. Batulao and Bulalo Soup at Mohogany Tagaytay

I am featuring amazing day hike climb at Mt. Batulao, January 25, 2014 with my friends Leah Tabios and her friends. I met her friend Janine and Shella for the first time on that day. We expect a good side trip coffee break at Starbuck ok our way back home but we ended having a Bulalo Soup and Tawilis. The coffee is free on that eatery just ask for it.

I asked Song Candano to give us a ride from Philcoa to Grand Terminal at Costal Mall. Since Leah and Janine are not yet in the meeting place, we moved and pick them up at Jolibee Mangahan Commonwealth and went strait to Coastal Mall. At the coastal mall we met Sheila and that make us four in a group.

The bus fare is 108 pesos from Grand Terminal to Evercrest Gold Course. There are available tricycle going to the foot of the mountain for 30 pesos per head fare. We choose to walk and save money because my friend has the 500 peso challenge. It means that the only budget that they suppose to spend will be not more than 500 pesos.

The controversial old and new trail.

Which way is easier? We try the old trail going up to the summit and goes down on the new trail. The new trail gives you the best view of the place while going up. It helps you to relax while pushing your self up. I think the old trail is nice since it has many good stations to rest and we spend so much time on every station and that also make us so relax.

The Sassy Girl Tree at Mt. Batulao

It is a nice acacia tree and a good place to rest before you climb again to the summit. The summit is just few minutes away from that tree. Me and my friend call it Sassy Girl Tree because it comes out in our mind when we saw that tree.

The curvy mountain of Mt. Batulao

I love the mountain formation of the wavy or curvy figure in the far view. What do we expect when we start to get trough that trail and what it is look like at the top. It is simply amazing how it was created. Be careful at every peak because both side is a deep fall down.

What Can I say at the summit?

Oh there is a Halo-halo store! I don’t know if I go buy first or enjoy the 360 views of the horizon. Jump shot is always my favorite shot at the summit. Thank Leah Tabois because she is the best photographer that I ever been with. Keep calm and relax for it is what I want. When I got there we are not the only group at the summit so better enjoy the view with them.

Look it is hard to get down than to climb.

Because going down is not against the gravity the earth is pulling you down more. It is hard when you don’t have balancing skills. You have to put your weigh on the correct landing so that you can able to manage your balance.

There is a 20 pesos registration going up and down.

I heard that the registration is used to maintain the trail safety and save some budget for the occasion. Just like the new trail anniversary. They provide food for the climbers on that day as part of the celebration.

There are toilets for who wants to clean up and get refresh but there is no available for us, there are still few mountaineer on queues to use the toilet. So we decide to go home dirty but happy.

    Side Trip at Mohogany Place.

Our next stop is to find the best restaurant to eat or Starbucks to relax and enjoy the over looking view at Tagaytay. We ended up at Mohogany place where tastiest Bulalo is serve. We also get nice breaded fried Tawilis plus free kapenng barako when you ask for it. We had our fine dine in and go home with extra pasalubong. I bought papaya, dried tawilis and posit.

At Baclaran, we rode on a taxi going home together. Sheila went down to SM Megamall to attend her job, I drop to Philcoa for tricycle ride going home and the last taxi passenger Leah and Janine go strait to their home.

Day Hike Summary of Mt. Batulao climb.

All members (Leah, Janine, Sheila and Me) meet-up at Grand Terminal Coastal mall. We rode a bus going to Nasugbu, Batangas and drop by at Evercrets Golf Course. The bus fare is 108 pesos. Instead of riding a 30 pesos per head tricycle fare from Evercrest Golf Course Gate, we decide to walk going to the trail. You will reach the split direction heading old or new trail before you reach the registration on the campsite. Either of the trail, you have to register going up and down for 20 pesos. We enjoy food at the campsite and took some halo-halo merienda at the summit. We are motivated to go down as we are after for the side-trip at Mohogany food trip. At home at last.
